E-content

             Any digitized content that can facilitate the learning process and/or learning outcome can be termed as e-content Any content product available in a digital form and it typically refers to music, information and images that are available for distribution on electronic media is called e-content. E-content is generally designed to guide students through lot of information in a specific task. An e-content package can be used as a teacher in the virtual classroom situations. The quality of learning depends not only on the form of how the process is carried out but also on what content is taught and how the content is presented.
E-content development requires huge amounts of creativity both at   'information' level  as well as the 'technology' level.
  Phases of e-content development
  1. Planning        
ü  overall plan to develop educational content
ü  identify basic information needed for development
ü  Estimate time, budget and resources
  1. Design Phase
ü  To conduct a primary analysis of learning tasks, and create storyboards
ü  Conduct goal and task analysis  
ü  Develop initial content ideas     
  1. Development Phase
ü  actual production of the e-content
ü  create the e-content by mixing of texts, audio, video, animations , references, blogs, links, and MCQs (multiple choice questions)
  1. Testing phase
·         test the spelling mistakes, content errors, clarity of pictures , relevant videos, appropriate audios, timing of animations, and hyperlinks.
  1. Implementation Phase
·         explains how to install and how to use it and their difficulties experienced while using e-content
  1. Evaluation Phase
·         feedback from both learners and instructors

e-content development initiatives in India :
           NME-ICT, UGC-CEC

     National Mission on Education through ICT (NME-ICT), has assigned work to the UGC for development of e-content in 71 subjects at postgraduate level.  High quality, curriculum-based, Interactive content in different subjects across all disciplines of social sciences, arts, fine arts & humanities, natural & mathematical sciences, linguistics and languages is being develop under this initiative named e-PG Pathshala. The Mission shall work on the philosophy of encouraging all the scholars and academicians to generate e-content. This may even result in generation of more than one set of e-content on one topic in any given discipline. A large quantity of e-learning material, in digital form, is already available. Therefore, the Mission shall undertake an exercise to evaluate the already available e-learning material, as well as the one which is being or is to be generated, and grade them for the benefit of learners. The Mission shall also attempt to provide guidance to them in order to facilitate their search for quality material.
